Honolulu Zoo and municipal golf courses closed Tuesday due to Hurricane Lowell

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Enterprise Services (DES) announced that the Honolulu Zoo and all six City municipal golf courses will be closed Tuesday, September 8, due to Hurricane Lowell and anticipated overnight weather conditions.
The closures are a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and City employees and to allow staff to assess facilities and conditions Tuesday morning.
The following City golf courses will be closed:
- Ala Wai Golf Course
- ʻEwa Villages Golf Course
- Kahuku Golf Course
- Pali Golf Course
- Ted Makalena Golf Course
- West Loch Golf Course
The Honolulu Zoo will also be closed Tuesday.
City officials will assess conditions at the Zoo and all six golf courses following the storm and determine when the facilities can safely reopen.
The closures are part of the City and County of Honolulu’s broader decision to close non-essential City offices and services Tuesday. Essential emergency and public safety operations will continue.
Oʻahu remains under a Tropical Storm Warning as Hurricane Lowell passes west of the island. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel overnight and Tuesday morning, remain aware of changing conditions, and follow instructions from emergency officials.
Residents and visitors should continue monitoring official City and National Weather Service information and sign up for HNL Alert at HNLAlert.gov to receive emergency notifications.
Residents who want to receive only urgent alerts can also text HNLALERT to 888-777 to subscribe to the most important emergency notifications by text message.
Updates on the reopening of the Honolulu Zoo and municipal golf courses will be provided as conditions allow.
