Magic Island reopens as cleanup continues at

Ala Moana Regional Beach Park following impacts from Hurricane Lowell
O‘AHU– The ‘Āina Moana (Magic Island) portion of Ala Moana Regional Park is reopening today, Wednesday, Sept. 9, as Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) crews continue cleanup efforts following Hurricane Lowell.
Crews are working to remove large amounts of sand and debris deposited across portions of the heavily used park.
The Magic Island parking lot will reopen this afternoon. However, the Magic Island Lagoon is expected to remain closed until Friday while cleanup work continues.
Park users and pedestrians are asked to avoid active work areas and give crews the space they need to complete the cleanup safely.
DPR is working to fully reopen Ala Moana Regional Park as soon as possible, with the goal of reopening the remaining areas later this week.
The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as crews work to restore the park for the community.
